Kobudo literally means "way of the ancient martial art". Originating from the islands of Honshu, Okinawa and Ryu-Kyu, the fragmented nature of these islands means that there is not one kobudo, but many forms and masters.

Two main currents can be distinguished:

  • The Kobudo of Honshu: martial education of an elite including the sword (katana), the spear (yari), the long (bo) and short (jo) staff as well as some particular weapons.
Also found there are movements and techniques typical of aiki-jutsu or ju-jutsu.
  • Okinawan Kobudo: born from the need for the rural population to organize resistance against the Chinese and Japanese foreign domination; the agrarian tools will become, through particularly hard and hidden training, formidable weapons such as the sai (trident), the tonfa (millstone crank), the nunchaku (flail), the kama (sickle).

A third very distinct but more confidential trend was transmitted within the Okinawa royal family, the Motobu-ha. In addition to the weapons of the Okinawa kobudod, it includes cutting weapons of Chinese origin.

Our work, based on these various currents, will aim at the initiation to the handling of the various weapons.

It is accessible to all, whatever the level of experience, and will allow to improve, to progress technically, physically and mentally.

We offer weekly training sessions, as well as training sessions with other martial arts. No competition in Kobudo.
